Project Description

Irving Oil Whitegate Refinery

Project: C3 Tank Ladder
Steel: 18.5 Metre long welded assembly

Project Description

Kenneally Steel Fabrication is Irving Oil Whitegate Refinery’s Term Service Contractor for Structural Steel and Platforms.  We were engaged by Irving Oil in July 2017 to supply the roof access gantry for their C3 Storage tank refurb project.

This project required the survey of the existing gantry and the fabrication, delivery to site and installation of the access gantry on one of their bulk storage tanks. The tank ladder was 18.5 metres long and had to be constructed in one completely welded assembly.

The steel was surveyed and detailed by Kenneally Steel Fabrication, approved by the client and made in our workshop facility in Ballyduff Upper, Co. Waterford.  To ensure the assembly stayed straight during welding we fabricated a heavy steel frame the full size of the gantry. We then attached the Tank Ladder to this frame during fabrication and welding. The 18.5 metre long Tank Gantry was then shipped to site using a trombone trailer with a certified spreader beam attached for lifting. The Unit was lifted directly off the trailer by crane and installed on to the bulk storage tank in the Whitegate Refinery.

The project was delivered ahead of schedule and on budget.  The client was satisfied with the project delivery and the service we provided. The success of this project lead to the supply and installation of a second access gantry for the C2 bulk storage tank in December 2018
