Project Description

Kenneally Steel Fabrication is Irving Oil Whitegate Refinery’s Term Service Contractor for Structural Steel and Platforms. We were engaged by Irving Oil in May 2019 to complete a number of projects during their summer shutdown.

Irving Oil have 5-week shutdown every 5 years to overhaul their entire plant.

During the shutdown over 600 people were working on the site. Many of the projects including replacement of pipe work and vessels required modifications to existing platforms. Kenneally Steel Fabrication carried out this work servicing Irving Oil and several of their contractors ensuring that timelines were met and that projects progressed efficiently. This required a dynamic approach with Kenneally Steel Fabrication balancing conflicting priorities of individual contractors to facilitate the delivery of the overall project to schedule.

During the shutdown we had people available on site to survey steel work that was required on very short lead times. For several projects, galvanised steel was surveyed, fabricated, galvanised and installed within extremely short turnaround times.

We also had a Rigging and Slinging Team working with Irving Oil. This team was responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks using cranes and other lifting equipment. The experience of our riggers meant that they could be used across a broad range of tasks.
