Project Description

Client: Irish Distillers

Project: Mill Room Steel
Steel: 10 tonnes

Project Description

Kenneally Steel Fabrication were engaged to remove existing access platform and install new access platforms and grating in May 2018 at Irish Distillers Midleton.

The steel was required on a short turn-around. Following a site survey, fabrication drawings were produced, and the steel was fabricated and delivered to site. As the Mill Room was still in operation all works had to be carried out in a live environment. The existing platform and hoop ladder had to be suspended using chain blocks from overhead steel and moved to ground level for demolition and removal from the room.

There was no possibility of using a crane or teleporter as the only point of access to the building was through a personnel door. All steel was lifted singly into position using chain blocks and Genie Material Lifter and secured to existing steel or new columns.

Once all steel was in position, lined and tightened, grating and handrails were lifted into position and the platforms were decked out.

The project was delivered safely, on time and within budget. There was no adverse effect on production.
