Glennon Brothers

Project: Installation of Screw feeder for logs
Date: Summer 2019 Shutdown

Project Description

Kenneally Steel Fabrication has been carrying out maintenance work in Glennon Brothers for more than 20 years. We were engaged by Glennon Brothers in July 2019 to carry out a number of projects during their summer shutdown including the installation of a screw feeder on their log sorting machine.

This project involved removal of the existing 23 tonne step feeder, fabrication and installation structural steel, installation of the new feeding system and modification to platforms and access ways around the new system.

The program for the project was 6 days so considerable planning and preparation was required to ensure the project was a success. Our team removed all attachments to the existing feeder and removed the machine using a 100 tonne crane. New support steel was fabricated in our workshop in Ballyduff and installed by crane to support the new feeder.

The new screw feeder was installed in 2 parts. Firstly we installed the 3.5 tonne single piece feeder and then we installed the 21.5 tonne screw feeder each using a 100 tonne crane. We moved the new machines into the final position, worked with the manufacturer’s engineer to complete the final alignment and secure machine in position.

Walkways and access platforms were reinstalled around the new machines and protection for cables and hoses mounted on the machine. We then assisted in the commissioning and testing of the new screw feeder.

The project was delivered on schedule and on budget.  The client was satisfied with the project delivery and the service we provided.
