Project Description

Scope: Construction of the Kilo Scales Facility on Site at GSK, Ringaskiddy, including the re-routing of existing live Process Lines, the formation of a new raft foundation, the construction of the new building, all internal finishes (including flooring and walls) as well as the formation of a new 1^st Floor Level within the void in the adjoining building.

GSK appointed Kenneally Steel as the Civil Contractor for the KSF Enabling Works, which involved the re-routing of the existing process lines and the Main Project which involved the formation of the Building as well as works to the existing Void within the adjoining Building which would become part of the new Facility.

The re-routing of the drainage required an extensive amount of planning and preparation work as the drainage could only be shut down for one short period to allow for the final connections. To allow for the new foundation, a significant amount of rock was required to be broken away and this was monitored throughout with regards to vibrations and the effect they may have on nearby buildings and equipment.

The structure consisted of RC Columns and Beams and the large Steel Roof beams were fabricated in our workshop in Ballyduff, Co. Waterford and lifted in using Mobile Cranes before the concrete reinforced roof slab was poured using concrete lorries and pumps.

The Internal Flooring and Finishes were carried out by Kenneally Steel and our sub-contractors, with significant site co-ordination being carried out throughout with the other trades in the Building.

This project was completed on time and within project programme at the start of 2016.
