Project Description

Client: Glaxo Smithkline

Project: Pipe Bridge

Project Description

Kenneally Steel Fabrication has worked on ThermoFisher Scientific’s (formerly GSK’s) site in Cork since 2002. We have been a main contractor on the site since 2008 and were appointed as Term Service Contractor for all Civil and Structural Projects in 2015.

We were engaged by GSK in 2018 to replace the existing Pipe Bridge which was showing significant rusting and degradation. All existing services were left in place and supported during both the demolition and construction phase.  This meant that all work had to be carried out around live pipe work and cables. Kenneally Steel Fabrication were responsible for the formation of all fabrication drawings as well as all site measurements.

The demolition was carried out in a controlled manner, with all members being cut down to manageable sizes with sabre saws before being removed to the Waste Management Facility by the Teleporter.

The existing stub columns were then broken down and replaced with new reinforced concrete to support the new columns.

The new bridge was built in position using a crane to stand all columns and the larger members. A teleporter was used to lift in the smaller members onto the Loading Bay. All support members were then fed in through the services and bolted into position. The painting was touched up before the Pipe Bridge was handed over to the client.
