Project: Cooling Towers Access Stairs

Project Description

Kenneally Steel Fabrication is ThermoFisher Scientific’s (formerly GSK’s) Medium Term Service Contractor for all Civil and Structural Projects.  We were engaged by GSK in 2015 to remove the existing timber stairs to the Existing Cooling Towers and replace it with a Galvanised Steel Access Stairs.

This project required the top down demolition of the old timber stairs in a controlled manner, using battery saws and a Telescopic Handler. The waste timber was then cut down to manageable sizes before being disposed of to the Waste Management Facility on Site.

We then excavated on either end of the Existing RC Foundation to allow us to extend it out to cover the new footprint. The new steel was fabricated in our workshop before being galvanised by our sub-contractor and delivered to Site. It was then erected using a mobile crane, telescopic handler and MEWPs, improving access to the roof of the Towers for the Client.
