Project Description

Client: Glaxo Smithkline

Project: A14 Cooling Towers Support Platform

Project Description

Kenneally Steel Fabrication has worked on Thermo Fisher Scientific’s (formerly GSK’s) site in Cork since 2002. We have been a main contractor on the site since 2008 and were appointed as Term Service Contractor for all Civil and Structural Projects in 2015.

We were engaged by GSK in 2019 to supply and fit a New Galvanised Support Platform with access stairs for the new Cooling Towers in Area 14.

This project involved the casting of new reinforced concrete pad foundations for the new columns, the formation of fabrication drawings for and the supply of the new steel frame and its erection on site using a Crane and Teleporter. The platform was designed to incorporate a walkway around the Towers at the first level as well as stairs to the top of the Towers themselves.

The project also required us to re-seal the existing bund with a chemical resistant product. We needed to grind the existing under a High-Risk Hot Works Permit before the products were mixed and applied in layers by one of our sub-contractors.
